HYBRID SEMINAR & HEALTHCARE JOB FAIR

This hybrid seminar and job fair aims to support Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) in Canada by providing essential guidance, resources, and networking opportunities to advance their careers in Canada. Designed specifically for international medical graduates (IMGs), internationally educated nurses (IENs), international pharmacy graduates (IPGs), internationally trained dentists (ITDs), and other IEHPs, the event will address licensure pathways, alternative career options, and integration resources.

Participants can attend a live-streamed seminar featuring expert speakers on key topics, as well as an in-person job fair with recruiters from Greater Toronto Area (GTA) healthcare organizations. We anticipate around 150-200 attendees, offering a robust platform for IEHPs to connect, learn, meet healthcare recruiters, and build their professional networks.

Dr. Janet Ann D’souza [MBBS, MD, CCFP, FCFP, MPH, (General Practice, focused on Dermatology)]

is a Family Physician with a focused practice in Dermatology. She is an avid Public Health advocate and an inclusive leader, valuing and respecting the vast perspectives that people from different cultural, educational, religious and ethnic backgrounds bring to the table. She is committed to continuous growth in herself and in others, which is amplified by continuous participation in leadership development and collaboration with fellow healthcare professionals. Her vision extends beyond clinical practice. Dr. Janet D’souza aims to influence policy decisions to increase and improve the healthcare workforce capacity and capability. Ekaterina Agar (Kate), MEd, HBA [English Major], OCT, OCELT

Kate is a seasoned language instructor with over 15 years of experience, teaching in diverse educational settings, including private schools in Toronto and Niagara College’s ELTE and OSLT programs for newcomers. A graduate of Lakehead University with a degree in English literature and a master’s in education, Kate is committed to equipping internationally educated professionals with essential English communication skills. She specializes in helping healthcare professionals master medical terminology and effectively articulate complex information, fostering precise, compassionate patient care and professional interactions. Irina Edilova

Irina Edilova has over 13 years of experience supporting Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) in their journey toward healthcare integration in Canada. She has guided thousands of IEHPs across Ontario and beyond, offering both group sessions and personalized advice. Notably, Irina has assisted over 600 international medical graduates (IMGs) with successful CaRMS applications. She served on the CaRMS Application Review Committee from 2016 to 2018, worked as a Health Workforce Integration Advisor with HealthForceOntario for eight years, and has held the position of IEHP Advisor at Ontario Health for the past five years, where she continues to be an invaluable resource for Internationally Trained Professionals (ITPs) especially IEHPs in Ontario. LinkedIn.

Mihai Csaki, MD [non-practicing], MCATD

A Medical Affairs professional with extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, Clinical Research, Sales, Marketing, Pharma Distribution, and Occupational Medicine across Europe and North America. He co-founded pharmaceutical distribution centers, a pharmacy, and a medical software company in Romania, later acquired by Cegedim. Mihai has dedicated the past 14 years to assisting Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals with navigating Canada’s healthcare system and alternative career pathways. Nurse

Registered Nurses, Registered/ Licenced Practical Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses work in health clinics located within our federal institutions. Nurses provide care specializing in services that reflect the needs of a diverse patient population. As regulated (licenced) providers, nurses practice in accordance with professional standards and departmental/ institutional policy. Care may include services targeted at:

Psychologist

Psychologists and Psychological Associates support patients with a variety of mental health interventions, including assessments and treatment. Care is provided within an interdisciplinary team centred on a patient’s needs following assessment.

As a Psychologist in CSC, you will:

·         provide assessments of risk to re-offend

·         provide assessments of personality, mental health, and criminogenic needs

·         assess risk for suicide or self-injury

·         provide interventions to preserve life and prevent serious bodily harm

·         provide interventions to promote improved emotional and behavioural adjustment

·         provide supportive counselling to clients in crisis

·         provide psychotherapy to facilitate positive change in emotional, behavioural, and social functioning

·         conduct approved research with patients in the domain of forensic, clinical psychology or mental health

·         provide leadership, mentorship or supervision to health professionals and interns or practicum students

·         be involved in Accreditation and Quality Improvement processes

Psychological Associates are typically involved in the process of obtaining registration for autonomous practice as a Psychologist. As a Psychological Associate, the activities mentioned above are carried out under the close supervision of a Psychologist.

Occupational Therapist - Inventory

Occupational Therapists in CSC are responsible for the management and delivery of occupational therapy programs and services for a specific caseload of correctional clients. Occupational Therapists take a holistic view to client care. Their duties include:

·         triaging service requests and coordinating access to occupational therapy services

·         conducting assessments and developing biopsychosocial treatment plans in relation to a patient’s physical abilities and/or mental and cognitive health needs

·         preparing occupational therapy treatment assessments, plans and progress reports

·         developing, implementing, and evaluating occupational therapy programs and rehabilitation services for both groups and individuals

·         engaging in health promotion activities to support patient overall wellbeing

·         assessing risk for suicide or self-injury

·         providing interventions to preserve life and prevent serious bodily harm.

Achēv’s Accelerating Career Advancement Program is designed to help individuals relaunch their careers in Canada. This program offers financial loans and one-on-one career counselling to eligible Permanent Residents, Canadian Citizens, or Convention Refugees who have obtained education and/or work experience outside of Canada and reside in Ontario.  The loan program, which requires no credit history, provides up to $30,000 with a low interest rate to cover expenses such as association and exam fees, short-term bridge training, tuition, books, and materials, as well as travel and living costs.
