Speciality accreditation
If you received specialty training other than family medicine outside of Canada, you have one of the following two possible options for obtaining accreditation and practicing as a specialist in Canada.
Royal College Certification Pathway
The Royal College Certification Pathway offers three routes for IMGs: Approved Jurisdiction Route for equivalent training, Practice Eligibility Route for assessment-based certification, and SEAP for subspecialists seeking certification in a subspecialty.
Province-Based Specialist Pathway (More Information Coming Soon..)
This pathway allows IMGs to practice in specific hospitals under a province-based license. The process involves hospital observation (e.g., PEAP in Ontario) and support from the hospital to secure a license. Success relies heavily on getting hired, and once hired, an IMG often progresses from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor.
