Nova Scotia Registration Pathway: Long Roadmap for IEMs
Internationally trained midwives can apply for registration and licensure with the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia (MRCNS) after these steps have been done:
Step 1
completing an approved bridging program and a competency assessment (e.g. the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE)
Step 2
providing proof of credentials and midwifery experience.
Step 3
demonstrating that they can legally work in Canada.
The MRCNS accepts any of the following MRCNS-approved assessment and bridging programs (completed within the last two years):
-
- English-language assessment and bridging programs at the University of British Columbia or Toronto Metropolitan University
- French-language bridging program with l’Ordre des sages-femmes du Quebec
- Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program through the College of Midwives of Alberta
NOTE: To help internationally trained professionals connect with the information that they need, a new Government of Canada online resource is now available to provide reliable information on foreign credential recognition and help direct prospective and new immigrants to the correct regulatory body for their profession. It also provides information on key supports available to internationally trained professionals to support their labour market integration, such as Foreign Credential Recognition Loans.
