Northwest Territories Registration Pathway: Long Roadmap for IEMs
The Department of Health and Social Services, under the Registrar of Professional Regulation at the Government of the Northwest Territories (NWT), works on midwifery registration in the NWT. Currently, NWT does not assess internationally educated midwives as applicants for initial registration. All internationally educated midwives must first become eligible for registration in a Canadian province before applying for registration in Northwest Territories (Click Here).
Also, the application form implies that an applicant must have successfully completed an approved program in midwifery, or successfully completed a prior learning assessment program, and was registered or eligible to practice in a Canadian jurisdiction, previous to applying for a midwifery licence in NWT.Â
Language requirements
While the official languages of Nunavut are the Inuit Language, English and French, there is no specific mention of language requirements for midwives in Nunavut. However, the requirements for registration application package are provided in both English and French.
